The best places to stay in Amish Country, Ohio

Unique lodging, family-friendly hotels, and peaceful Airbnbs

My husband and I grew up, met, and married in Ohio’s Amish Country. While we now live just outside of the region, both of our parents still live in Holmes County! This has allowed us to enjoy the many different types of places to stay in Amish Country with or without the kids. We’ve stayed at a tiny home in Berlin, a modern hotel in Walnut Creek, and more! Here’s my list of the best places to stay in Amish Country! I hope this helps you plan your trip.

Wallhouse Hotel

The Wallhouse Hotel is conveniently located in Walnut Creek, Ohio. The Wallhouse is a modern hotel with an indoor pool, outdoor seating area with a fire pit, and amazing breakfast. We have enjoyed staying here twice with our family in their suites. The suites have two double beds in a separate bedroom, a small kitchenette, and a sleeper sofa.

The Wallhouse Hotel also has balconies for enjoying the local scenery during a warm summer day.

Carlisle Inn Walnut Creek

The Carlisle Inn Walnut Creek is a beautiful hotel that’s perfect for romantic getaways or a smaller family. This hotel offers a convenient walking distance to Der Dutchman Restaurant & Rebecca’s Bistro, both of which are on my list of the best places to eat in Amish Country. We stayed here near Christmas and the hotel’s decorations added to the cozy feel of the hotel.

Breakfast is included, but there is no swimming pool. Families wanting a pool may want to consider the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek.

Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek

The Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek is a gorgeous hotel with a stunning lobby. The location is perfect for families or couples who want more of an all-inclusive Amish Country experience because the hotel is located on a campus with Dutch Valley Restaurant & Bakery, Dutch Valley Market, and the Ohio Star Theatre.

This hotel also has a really nice indoor pool in an atrium, which would be great for a winter escape. There’s a small workout room to work off those amazing Amish bakery items.

Tiny Stays Berlin – The Lux

The Lux is an upscale tiny home located just outside of Berlin, Ohio. The home may look small but with features like a rainfall shower, jacuzzi tub, projection TV, full kitchen, and spacious deck; this tiny home is anything but basic. If couples are looking for a place to reconnect while only being minutes from great shopping and Amish restaurants in Berlin, this is the place!

Hillside Hideaway

Hillside Hideaways includes two cabins that are located between Millersburg and Berlin. We stayed in the Willow Cottage, which is a 2-person accomodation.

This Amish Country cabin would be perfect for a honeymoon or an anniversary celebration! One of the highlights of our stay was the large deck with rocking chairs – the view from the deck includes a pond and a hillside that would be glorious in the fall. As a side note, this is probably one of the cleanest Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed in!

The Hillside Hideaway is located close to Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery petting zoo, too.

The Bluebird Cottage

The Bluebird Cottage is the perfect place for families desiring a spot along the country roads of western Holmes County. This beautiful home is designed in modern farmhouse style. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and tons of outdoor activities to keep kids busy – yes, there’s even a playset! Probably our favorite part of the home was the amazing kitchen! We brought our dinner to save money on our trip and I really wished I could have taken that gas cooktop home with me! 😉

Another favorite feature was two separate living areas! There was space for the boys to watch football while I soothed our toddler with an episode of The Wiggles. If you need to get out of the house, the nearby Sunny Slope winery is also family-friendly.

Inn at Honey Run

The Inn at Honey Run is a luxurious and secluded couples-only resort just outside of Millersburg, Ohio, with its many antique shops and a local brewery. The lodge has 25 rooms, but there are also 12 honeycomb suites and two cottages. The unique honeycomb suites are built into the hillside and offer a romantic escape for couples wishing to disconnect a bit more.

The upscale Tarragon restaurant is located within a lodge. However, one of my favorite parts of the grounds is the Holmes County Open Air Art Museum. This outdoor trail includes many different art features throughout a 1.5-mile hike. This feature adds value for couples who may also be interested in art.

This convenient location is fitted with Amish-made furniture, a full bathroom, and a washer & dryer. The Wurthmann House is perfect for families that want to be in the heart of Amish Country – within walking distance of shopping and dining. The deck overlooking Main Street is the place to spend a summer evening.
