Kids can climb & play at Honey Run Falls

Honey Run Falls in Knox County, Ohio makes for a great day in nature

Honey Run Falls is a scenic waterfall located in Knox County, Ohio that is easy to access. From the parking lot, the waterfall is less than a 2-minute walk. There is a newly added handicap overlook with a cement walkway, but I’ll be honest, the view from the overlook isn’t great once the foliage is on the trees.

For families making a trip to the falls, Honey Run Falls is one of our favorites in Ohio because the Knox County Park District allows you to swim and climb on the waterfall! Most other waterfalls want you to stay out of the water, so this is definitely a reason to add this to your Ohio Bucket List. When we visited in mid-June, the water was probably 2 feet deep, making it a place where they could wade and play without me feeling like they were doing to die (honest talk).

I would recommend taking water shoes or a waterproof sandal (I wore my Chacos into the water), because the bottom is rough and rocky.

What I love about this park is that the sandstone cliffs and rugged terrain are a stark contrast to the rolling hills of cornfields throughout the region, and with the shade of the trees, you won’t notice that Midwest humidity!

Also on the property is a short trail that takes you to the Kokosing River. The trail is flat and easy for kids. There is no swimming allowed at this portion of the river, as there are dangerous rip currents. The natural beauty of this area will make you want to have a seat and enjoy the trees reflecting on the water. I mean, I’m sure it’s relaxing if the kids aren’t constantly asking, “So, when can we swim in the waterfall?!”

A visit to Honey Run Falls should only take 1 hour or so, depending on how long your children want to play in the water! If you’d like to add more hiking, the Honey Run Highlands Park is an additional 300+ acres to explore. The parking lot is just across from the waterfall access.
