Hiking Blackhand Gorge with little ones

Central Ohio has a secret and that secret is Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve.  Well-known for its 4-mile bike path, the area also contains other hiking trails as well as a portion of the Ohio-Erie Canal.  Although I’d been there a handful of times before, this was the first time I even knew that the Canal path existed!   Since we had walked the bike path many times in the past (it’s also great for strollers), this time we decided to …

#WishfulWednesday- North American water edition

I’ve been dreaming of water lately.  It’s been 9+ months since we were at the ocean and Ohio-living just doesn’t do it for me sometimes.  Being on the water always fuels my creativity and makes me even more grateful for this beautifully created world that we live in. Here’s 5 places I’m eager to visit for #WishfulWednesday. Thousand Islands, New York/Canada This would have been a perfect stop for our trip to Ottawa, but the weather was still very cool a …

It’s Memorial Day…time to start thinking about Spring Break

Really? Yes. In my 7 years as a travel agent, I would cringe when a client would call me in late January and want to know about where they should go for the best Spring Break “deal.” My stomach would be in knots as I would tell them I would do my best but most likely it was going to be slim pickins. We only think about Spring Break in Ohio when we’re freezing cold and sick of scraping ice …

Canadian Tulip Festival with Kids – Ottawa

Our family just got back visiting Ottawa, Canada and the Canadian Tulip Festival with our kids.  The tulips did not disappoint.  Ottawa has the largest festival of its kind and they showcase over 50 varieties of tulips.  The flowers are blooming all around town, but the main display is in Commissioners Park at Dows Lake.  The festival is the perfect time to visit Ottawa with kids Below is my own display of the tulips- through photographs!  I’m still learning how to use my …

A long weekend in Denmark in 10 photos (part 2)

Hi everyone!  I’m back with photos 6 through 10 of Richelle’s trip to Denmark.  You can check out Part 1 here.       6. Copenhagen also has a Changing of the Guard Ceremony (just like London!), and it’s pretty neat.  You can actually get pretty close to the Guards as they walk aroung the Amalienborg plaza, unlike the guards at Buckingham Palace in London, who are restricted behind the palace gates.   7. It wouldn’t be a proper trip …

Why you should travel with your children while they are still little

I’ve heard it said a dozen times, “Why would you travel to _____ when your kids are so little, they won’t remember.” I get it, I do.  We question whether the investment is worth the result.  I’m not sure what gratification we expect from the result but we hope that the money spent equals happiness and fun, and sometimes when you’re traveling with small children there is a lot of drudgery and chaos (just being real, here). Do you do a nighttime …

In love with Franklin Park Conservatory – Columbus, OH

I’m not sure there is anything happier than being greeted by giant tulips and a smiling face!  Our family recently took a trip to the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio and that’s exactly what we experienced! Located just east of downtown Columbus, the land for Franklin Park was purchased in 1852.  In 1884 the State Legislature opened the land for public use.  Franklin Park and the Conservatory was the site of Ameriflora 1992 and because of that the buildings …
